English to Italian Certified translations

A certified translation is a translation followed by a statement in which the translator declares that the text is a true and accurate translation of the original document. The translator also certifies that the work has been carried out to the best of his/her ability as a professional linguist.

The statement can be printed below the translation or on a letterhead attached to the translation itself. It also includes the translator’s details: name, address, VAT number and, if applicable, registration number with a professional body or other association. To be valid, it must be dated, signed and stamped by the expert.

This type of translation is used to verify the details of the original document but it does not have the same legal value as a sworn translation.

Documents that may need a certified translation

  • academic certificates

  • certificates of professional membership
  • good standing
  • employer’s declarations
  • receipts or invoices
  • certificates
  • employment contracts

Certified or sworn translation?

The choice depends on several factors: the specific requirements of the application form, the purpose of the translation, the country of destination, etc. Although I recommend that you verify with the final recipient, as a general rule you should bear in mind that

  • a sworn translation is usually the most appropriate solution if the translation is to be used in Italy
  • a certified translation may be sufficient if the translation is to be used abroad.

How much does it cost?

As there is no need to go to court, a certified translation is cheaper than a sworn translation. The exact cost will depend on the type and length of the text. You can request a quote by filling out this form or sending your document to info@justranslations.com.

How long does it take?

The delivery time for a certified translation is shorter than for a sworn translation. As soon as it is ready, I will email you a scanned copy of the document. You can collect it from my Studio in Viareggio, receive it by registered mail or courier to your address.

As each project is different, please contact me for an exact quote.
